Mohammed Rafi (24 December 1924 – 31 July 1980) was an Indian Playback Singer who is considered as one of the greatest Indian playback singers of the Hindi film industry. In his lifetime, he was awarded with six Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In 1967, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India. In 2001, He was honoured with the "Best Singer of the Millennium" title by Hero Honda and Stardust magazine. In 2013, He was voted as "Indian Cinema's Greatest Voice" in a poll conducted by CNN-IBN. Between 1950 and 1970, Rafi was the most sought after singer in the Hindi Film industry and sang for many male stars in Hindi films. He claimed to have recorded over 26000 songs in his singing career spanning over 35 years, however from available sources it may have been about 7405 songs.
